Prepare/Enrich for Couples
Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center offers professional counseling for couples entering marriage and for couples who wish to grow in their relationship. We utilize a research-based resource, Prepare/Enrich couples assessment program.
Ten core areas that are explored include:
- Communication
- Conflict and Resolution
- Personal Style and Habits
- Financial Management
- Leisure Activities and Having Fun
- Sexuality and Affection
- Family and Friends
- Relationship Roles
- Children and Parenting
- Spiritual Beliefs
Services include the following sessions:
- Initial interview with couple.
- Completion of Prepare/Enrich assessment inventory.
- Two family of origin sessions.
- Approximately four to six feedback sessions on the assessment inventory results regarding the couple’s relationship -both strengths and areas for growth.

- Develop a more balanced relationship
- Understand personality differences and maximize teamwork
Prepare/Enrich Core Exercises
- a personality profile based on the Five Factor Model of Personality
- a measure of couple relationship dynamics
- a couple and family map
- a personal stress profile
Enriching your Marriage — This approach to marriage is no longer just for couples entering into marriage. The same principles and assessment may be offered to enrich and sustain any marriage. As we grow and change, so do our relationships. Counseling is an opportunity to evoke understanding and growth for optimum relationship satisfaction.
Counseling may be customized to include such factors as cultural and ethnic differences, interfaith relationships, previous marriages, cohabitation, and step-parenting.
The per-session fee is based on the couple’s combined income and will be determined during the couple’s first session. There is a separate additional charge for the pre-marriage assessment inventory.
