GIVING to DES MOINES PASTORAL
COUNSELING CENTER

Donating to the Center's Counseling Assistance ~

Your gift to the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center will provide hope and healing for a child or adult experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, or stress from life's challenges.

Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center is able to offer help through quality affordable counseling on an ability-to-pay basis thanks to donations from individuals like you. Please consider a contribution of cash or stock to support our work with clients who could not otherwise have access to the hope and healing of counseling. Call Kathleen Murrin at (515) 274-4006 or mail your tax-deductible gift to the Center.

For 40 years, the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center has provided counseling to people from the full spectrum of socio-economic means. Some of our clients have insurance or personal funds to pay for the counseling they need. About 35 percent of our clients cannot afford counseling without assistance; another 28% are lower-income. For our uninsured, underinsured, and lower- and moderate-income clients, the Center provides a sliding scale for payment, based on income and family size. Again, we are able to offer our counseling on this ability-to-pay basis thanks to contributions from individuals, corporations, foundations, and congregations.

The Center is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. Gifts to the Center are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable by law. If you would like to make a contribution to help the Center continue to serve clients who are unable to afford counseling, please call Kathleen Murrin at (515) 274-4006 or send your tax-deductible contribution to:

WAYS TO GIVE

Make a current gift in support of the work of the Center
Gifts of cash, appreciated stock, or property to Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center help us provide counseling to individuals and families, adults and children who are struggling with life's challenges on little or no resources for the counseling they need.

Matching gifts
Many employers will match their employees' or retirees' gifts to nonprofit organizations like the Center. If you or your spouse is employed by (or retired from) a company that matches employees' / retirees' charitable contributions, your gift could be worth even more than you thought. Please check with your employer.

Donor Choice
When deciding about workplace giving, please know that the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center is a Donor Choice organization. Thank you.

Iowa ONE GIFT Contributions
The State of Iowa's annual One Gift Campaign typically is held in the fall, although State workers may contribute at any time during the year. The program allows State employees to contribute to DMPCC and other approved charitable agencies through payroll deduction. When you donate through One Gift, 100% of your gift goes to your charity of choice and stays in Iowa, where it helps your neighbors, friends, and family. Visit the State of Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS) http://das.hre.iowa.gov/onegift/index.html, to learn more or to pledge. Use Code “7700” to designate a gift to DMPCC.

Memorial and Tribute gifts
Consider honoring the memory of a loved one with a memorial gift or celebrating a significant milestone of a friend or family member with a tribute gift to the Center. This type of gift extends care, compassion, and esteem for the honored person far longer than flowers can bloom.

Wills, Bequests, Deferred and Estate gifts
Bequests and other deferred gifts, when made to the Center's Foundation (see below), are an excellent way to ensure the Center's healing presence in the community in the future.

Let us know if we can help you arrange any of these gifts. Call Kathleen Murrin at (515) 274-4006, e-mail: kmurrin@dmpcc.org.

Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center FOUNDATION

One very prudent resolution for the year ahead would be to find out more about the fiscal advantages to you and your heirs in naming the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center FOUNDATION as beneficiary for all or part of your IRA/401(k)/retirement fund assets. These are tax-deferred, not tax-free, assets. Leaving all or part of your retirement funds to the FOUNDATION means your hard-earned savings would not be diminished by estate or income taxes. Your tax adviser or financial planner can help you with this.

DMPCC FOUNDATION

The Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center Foundation was established in 1995 to help ensure that the healing and hope of counseling is available through the Center for years to come. The Foundation oversees the Center's permanent endowment fund, ensuring the future financial security of the Center. With planned gifts from friends of the Center, the future holds a time when interest from Foundation funds will help offset the cost of providing counseling to a growing number of lower- and moderate-income clients seeking help at the Center.

Gifts can be made to the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center Foundation in a variety of ways including:

  • Cash
  • Bequest
  • Life Insurance Policy
  • Appreciated Stock
  • Retirement Plan Assets

Example bequest language:
1. Bequest of cash
I bequeath the sum of $x to the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center Foundation of West Des Moines, IA.
2. Bequest of a percent of the estate
I devise and bequeath x% of the remainder and residue of property owned at my death, whether real or personal, and wherever located to the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center Foundation of West Des Moines, IA.

Retirement Plan Assets
Making the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center Foundation a beneficiary of your retirement plan assets (which are taxable to you/your estate) could be a very cost-effective move in planning for the distribution of your assets after your death.

To learn more about planned gifts to the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center Foundation,
call Kathleen Murrin at (515) 274-4006.

Endow Iowa: Helping Non-profit Organizations Ensure their Future

The Iowa legislature has authorized legislation to Endow Iowa. Endow Iowa allows Iowa taxpayers to take a 25% Iowa tax CREDIT (in addition to the normal state and federal charitable income tax deductions) for charitable gifts made to a permanent endowment fund. The Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center ENDOW IOWA Foundation qualifies for this program. The tax credit is 25% of the gift amount. Please contact the Center if you have an interest in pursuing this opportunity.
