GIVING to DES MOINES PASTORAL COUNSELING CENTER

Something new for the Center
Birdies for Charity

Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center was one of the participating charities in this year’s golf tournament sponsored by The Principal Financial Group (May 28-June 1, 2008). Birdies for Charity allowed participating organizations to generate pledges based on the number of "birdies" made during the 2008 Principal Charity Classic. Each participating charity will receive 100% of every pledge collected on their behalf.

THANK YOU to all those who made a pledge and in so doing did something great for the children in our C.O.O.L. program here at the Center.

Donating to the Center's Counseling Assistance Fund ~
Hope and Healing

For 36 years, the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center has provided counseling to people from the full spectrum of socio-economic backgrounds. Some of our clients have insurance or personal funds to pay for the counseling they need; about 40 percent of our clients cannot afford counseling without help. For our lower- and moderate-income clients, the Center provides a sliding scale, based on income and family size. We are able to offer our counseling on this ability-to-pay basis thanks to contributions from individuals, corporations, foundations, and congregations.

The Center is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. Gifts to the Center are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable by law. If you would like to make a contribution to help the Center serve clients who are unable to afford the full cost of counseling, please call Kathleen Murrin at (515) 274-4006 or send your tax-deductible contribution to:

WAYS TO GIVE

Make a current gift in support of the work of the Center
Gifts of cash, appreciated stock, or property to Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center help us provide counseling to individuals and families, adults and children who are struggling with life's challenges on little or no resources for the counseling they need.

Matching gifts
Many employers will match their employees' or retirees' gifts to nonprofit organizations like the Center. If you or your spouse is employed by (or retired from) a company that matches employees' / retirees' charitable contributions, your gift could be worth even more than you thought. Please check with your employer.

Memorial and Tribute gifts
Consider honoring the memory of a loved one with a memorial gift or celebrating a significant milestone of a friend or family member with a tribute gift to the Center. This type of gift extends care, compassion, and esteem for the honored person far longer than flowers can bloom.

IRA Charitable Rollover
For 2007, if you are 70 1/2 years old, gifts from your Traditional or Roth IRA accounts can be rolled over to the Center without any tax liability. No charitable deductions can be taken, but distributions will qualify for all or part of your required minimum distribution and will not be subject to income tax. This gift opportunity is scheduled to expire 12/31/07.

Wills, Bequests, Deferred and Estate gifts
Bequests and other deferred gifts, when made to the Center's Foundation (see below), are an excellent way to ensure the Center's healing presence in the community in the future.

Let us know if we can help you arrange any of these gifts. Call Kathleen Murrin at (515) 274-4006, e-mail: kmurrin@dmpcc.org.

Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center FOUNDATION

The Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center Foundation was established in 1995 to help ensure that the healing and hope of counseling is available through the Center for years to come. The Foundation oversees and manages the Center's permanent endowment fund, ensuring the future financial security of the Center. With planned gifts from friends of the Center, the future holds a time when interest from Foundation funds will help offset the cost of providing counseling to a growing number of lower- and moderate-income clients seeking help at the Center.

Gifts can be made to the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center Foundation in a variety of ways including:

  • Cash
  • Bequest
  • Life Insurance Policy
  • Appreciated Stock
  • Retirement Plan Assets

Example bequest language:
1. Bequest of cash
I bequeath the sum of $x to the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center Foundation of West Des Moines, IA.
2. Bequest of a percent of the estate
I devise and bequeath x% of the remainder and residue of property owned at my death, whether real or personal, and wherever located to the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center Foundation of West Des Moines, IA.

Retirement Plan Assets
Making the Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center Foundation a beneficiary of your retirement plan assets (which are taxable to you/your estate) could be a very cost-effective move in planning for the distribution of your assets after your death.

Endow Iowa: Helping Non-profit Organizations Ensure their Future

The Iowa legislature has authorized legislation to Endow Iowa. Endow Iowa allows Iowa taxpayers to take a 20% Iowa tax CREDIT (in addition to the normal state and federal charitable income tax deductions) for charitable gifts made to a permanent endowment fund. The Des Moines Pastoral Counseling Center Foundation qualifies for this program. The tax credit is 20% of the gift amount. Please contact the Center if you have an interest in pursuing this opportunity.
